Vol. 11 No. 3

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS ORAL ANSWERS. - ISSUE OF CAPITATION GRANTS TO TEACHERS.

asked the Minister for Education if he will explain why the annual capitation grants which are usually issued to teachers in the first week of April have not yet been paid, and whether he will see that those grants are issued without delay.

It has not been the practice to pay the annual capitation grant in the first week of April. The first half of the month of April each year is necessarily occupied with the payment of the balance of the teachers' ordinary salaries for the March quarter. Immediately after these payments are completed the issue of the annual capitation grant is taken up. The Payable Orders in respect of this grant are now in course of preparation and will be issued as soon as possible.
