Vol. 11 No. 6

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - DELAY IN SLIGO CONSIGNMENT OF SHOES.

asked the Minister for Finance whether his attention has been called to the fact that a consignment of shoes forwarded to Messrs. H. Lyons & Co., of Sligo, were despatched from London on the 6th April; whether on the 15th April Messrs. Lyons were informed by the Foreign and Colonial Parcel Post Department, Little Denmark Street, Dublin, that the duty of 16/7 should be paid to the Customs and Excise Department, Beresford Place, Dublin; whether although the necessary forms were completed, and the duty forwarded on the 15th of April, the shoes had not been delivered to Messrs. Lyons on the 27th of April, and whether he will investigate the cause of delay in this particular case.

A parcel containing shoes addressed to Messrs. H. Lyons & Co., Sligo, was presented to the Customs Officer at Little Denmark Street, Dublin, for examination on the 11th instant. Following normal procedure, notice of the arrival of the parcel with a request for payment of the duty, was sent on the same day to the addressee. Duty was received by the Collector of Customs and Excise, Beresford Place, Dublin, on the 20th instant, and notification of the payment was sent without delay to the officer who examined the parcel. Meanwhile the business of dealing with imported post parcels had been transferred from Little Denmark Street to Fowler Hall, Dublin. The parcel was handed over by the Customs to the Post Office officials at Fowler Hall on the 23rd April for delivery to the addressee.
