WRITTEN ANSWERS. - DIVISION OF MEATH ESTATES.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he can now state when the estate known as Trimblestown, Trim, Co. Meath, the property of Miss May Brown, will be divided amongst the small holders and landless men in the district; and if he can state whether preference will be given to the men who lost their employment on the estate as a result of the Land Commission having taken over the lands.

Mr. HOGAN

The lands referred to comprise 427 acres of Trimblestown and 254 acres of Phillinstown, held by Miss May Brown as a judicial tenant on the estate of Hon. Anna Barnewall and others, Co. Meath. This holding will be a "retained holding" and will be dealt with by the Land Commission as such. It is not possible at the present stage of the proceedings for purchase to say when the holding will be vested in the Land Commission.

In the division of lands acquired by the Land Commission, consideration is given to the cases of employees who lose their employment owing to the acquisition.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether the Land Commission have completed negotiations for the purchase of the estate of P.J. Kennedy, at Trim, Co. Meath, and whether he will state when said estate will be acquired for distribution amongst the small holders and landless men in the district of Trim.

Mr. HOGAN

The Land Commission are taking steps with a view to the acquisition of portion of the lands of Ardanew, on the estate of P.J. Kennedy, County Meath, but it is not possible at present to say when the lands may be vested in the Land Commission.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether the Land Commission have inspected the estate of W.A. Wallace, at Rathregan, Batterstown, County Meath, and if he can state when it is proposed to take over this estate for the relief of congestion.

The lands referred to have been inspected, and the Land Commission are taking steps with a view to their acquisition. At the present stage of the proceedings it is not possible to say when the lands may be vested in the Land Commission.
