Vol. 11 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SLANEY FISHERMEN'S CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state when the many applications made by fishermen on the Ferrycarrig area of the River Slaney for compensation in consequence of their boats having been commandeered during the civil strife period, 1922-23, will be dealt with.

£322 5s. 0d. has been paid to sixty-five fishermen on the River Slaney in settlement of their claims arising out of the commandeering of their boats. I am, therefore, not clear as to what applications are referred to by the Deputy. If he will furnish me with particulars they will receive urgent attention.

Would the Minister be surprised to hear that I received that answer on at least four occasions, and that I have repeatedly made representations here and in Portobello Barracks and received no satisfaction?

I can assure the Deputy that if he makes representations now they will receive attention.
