Vol. 11 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - GRATTAN ESTATE (KILDARE) TENANTS.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he is aware that a considerable number of tenants on the Grattan Estate, Drummond, Carbury, Co. Kildare, who have been paying interest in lieu of rent since 1907 have not had their holdings vested, and if he will state when the untenanted land and the land from which tenants have been evicted on the above estate will be dealt with.

The majority of the holdings in this estate have already been vested, and as regards the holdings remaining unvested, eight in number, the requisitions regarding same issued by the Commission have recently been complied with, and it is hoped to have the advances made and the holdings vested at an early date.

As regards the untenanted lands in this estate, the Estates Commissioners made an offer under the Irish Land Act, 1903-9, for the purchase of some 65 acres, which was accepted by the owner. An offer is about to issue under the Land Act, 1923, for the purchase of other lands on the estate which, if required, will be dealt with in conjunction with the 65 acres referred to.

Can the Minister state if the turbary in connection with this Estate will be dealt with at the same time? It is a rather important matter for those tenants.

I will have enquiries made into the matter and the Deputy will be informed in due course.
