Vol. 11 No. 21

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - REBUILDING OF CULLEN BRIDGE, (MILLSTREET).

DOMHNALL O MOCHAIN

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he can state the original estimate of the Cork County Council through their County Surveyor for the rebuilding of the Cullen Bridge, Millstreet; whether this work was put up for contract and whether tenders had been received, or whether instructions were given to have the work carried out by direct labour, and if so, whether ex-members of the National Army were to get first preference in employment thereon.

The original estimate for the rebuilding of Cullen Bridge, Millstreet, was £2,200. Instructions were given by the Cork County Council to carry out the work by direct labour, with permission to the county surveyor to sublet in certain cases. All local authorities have been requested from time to time to give employment to ex-members of the National Army, and I have issued a definite instruction to the Cork County Council to give a preference to demobilised soldiers in connection with the repair of bridges.
