Vol. 12 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - COBH AND AMERICAN TOURISTS.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether he will state if it is the intention of his Department, pending the opening of Saorstát visa offices in American centres outside New York, to arrange that American tourists holding British visas should disembark at Cobh or other Transatlantic ports in the Saorstát if they desire; whether intending tourists leaving New York are advised before leaving of the necessity of procuring Saorstát visas, if they intend landing at Cobh.

While all American citizens travelling to Saorstát ports from port of New York must have a Saorstát visa, a British visa will enable travellers from ports other than New York to land in the Saorstát. The shipping companies are fully aware of the existing arrangements, and intending visitors to the Saorstát, leaving the port of New York, are afforded all the facilities for obtaining visas as intending visitors to any other independent state. We are considering the question of extending the New York arrangement to the other Transatlantic ports of the United States at an early date.
