CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - RETAIL BESPOKE TAILORING TRADE BOARD.

TOMAS MacEOIN

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has received representations asking him to dissolve the Retail Bespoke Tailoring Trade Board; if he is aware that the workers' side of the Board is opposed to its dissolution, and that their views are shared by many substantial employers in the Retail Tailoring Trade, who are, if desired, prepared to serve on the Board, and what steps he proposes taking in the matter.

The practical difficulties in the effective working of this Board have been under consideration for some two years and I have decided to give formal notice of intention to withdraw the Retail Bespoke Tailoring Trade, with the exception of a small section, from the Trade Board Acts. I am aware that the workers' side object to this course, but not that many substantial employers capable of working effectively a Board for the whole trade are of the same opinion. The final notice of intention is being prepared and will shortly be issued. It will then be open to interested parties to lodge objections when a formal inquiry, if necessary, will be held.

Will that inquiry be a public inquiry?

I am not quite clear on that. I think that inquiries in these cases are public; I am pretty certain they are public.
