Vol. 12 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CORK AND FACULTY IN AGRICULTURE.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state what steps have been taken to carry out the undertaking given in the Dáil in July, 1924, that the First Class Faculty in Agriculture would be established in University College, Cork, and why the necessary expenditure therefor had not been included in the Estimates for 1925/26; if he can state whether any approach has been made to the University Authorities in Cork in connection with the matter; whether estimates have been prepared, and if same have been approved by the Department of Finance, and, if so, when same will come before the Dáil.

After consultation with the authorities of University Colleges at Cork and Dublin, schemes were prepared by the Department of Agriculture for the provision of (a) a Faculty in Dairy Science (including Research in Dairying) at Cork, and (b) a Faculty in Agriculture (including Agricultural Research) at Dublin. These schemes have been submitted to the Department of Finance, with a view to obtaining approval for the provision of the amounts which would be required.

Mr. EGAN

When may we expect that this will come into operation?

Mr. HOGAN

I am afraid I am not in a position to state that. The schemes are prepared and are being considered by the Department of Finance.

We know what that means.
