Vol. 12 No. 15

SHOP HOURS (DRAPERY TRADES, DUBLIN AND DISTRICTS) BILL, 1925.—SECOND STAGE.

No. 4 on the Orders of the Day—the Shop Hours Bill, 1925—is a Bill which has been initiated in the Seanad and sent to the Dáil for consideration. It is considered under the Standing Orders to have been introduced and a day must be fixed for the Second Stage. We can only take the Second Stage at the instance of a Deputy. The question is whether it will be taken to-day or at some later date.

The Bill has not yet been circulated and it cannot very well be taken to-day.

It cannot be taken to-day. It is on the Order Paper in order to enable a date to be fixed.

The Bill is an agreed Bill and for reasons affecting the drapery trade, and in order to avoid labour disturbances in that trade, it is desirable that it should be passed before the end of the present Session. If the Dáil would agree to have the Second Stage taken on Tuesday, and time were given for it by the Government, I would be very glad.

What does the Deputy mean by an agreed Bill?

That is a phrase that nobody can explain. Deputies will have to read the Bill in order to see if they agree with it. If the Second Stage were fixed for Tuesday would Government time be available on that day?

We will give an hour in the evening.

Second Stage ordered for Tuesday.
