Vol. 12 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SUPERANNUATION OF CARETAKER.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that Mrs. Ring, of Millstreet, Co. Cork, midwife and caretaker of the dispensary to the late Board of Guardians for about thirty-seven years, was superannuated, but has received no money yet; also, if he is aware that there are other ex-officials in a similar position; and if he will see that these persons' pensions, and in some cases arrears of pay, are paid.

There is some regrettable delay in ascertaining the facts concerning this case. Two communications concerning it have issued from my Department to the Secretary of the County Council, to which no reply has been received. Grave dissatisfaction has arisen owing to the failure of this officer to attend properly to public business, and the question of whether he can be allowed to remain in his office is at present under consideration.

Might I suggest to the Minister that he should hurry up a settlement of that matter? One woman who was an official of this particular Board of Guardians died about twelve months ago and left a young child. She was due her superannuation, but her relations who were minding the child have not yet heard about it.

I am not aware of any other case. If the Deputy will bring any further case to my notice, I will be very pleased to take any action possible.
