Vol. 12 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - TELEPHONE EXCHANGE AT ABBEYFEALE.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the cause of the delay in opening a Telephone Exchange in Abbeyfeale, and if he is aware that this delay is causing serious inconvenience to local creameries which are desirous of installing telephones, so as to link up with the general telephone service of the country, and whether he has received an application from the Mountcollins Co-operative Creamery to have a telephone installed in their creamery, and an exchange opened in Abbeyfeale, and whether he will see that the matter is expedited, as creameries are in the middle of the season now, and feel the loss of telephonic communication in marketing their produce.

The opening of a telephone exchange at Abbeyfeale was considered recently, but a sufficient number of subscribers could not be obtained to warrant the expenditure involved on the project, which would necessitate the erection of a telephone circuit between Abbeyfeale and Listowel, a distance of about 10 miles. In the absence of an exchange at Abbeyfeale, it is not possible to afford a telephone service to the Mountcollins Co-operative Creamery.
