Vol. 12 No. 20

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - LABOURER'S COTTAGE PLOT (RATHANGAN).

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that Matthew Kelly, of Ballyseoghan, Rathangan, Co. Kildare, has been paying rent as tenant of a labourer's cottage and a plot of one acre of land to the Edenderry No. 2 Rural District Council for the last ten and a-half years; whether this plot, when measured recently, was found to be only one-half an acre in area; whether this irregularity was brought to the notice of the District Council on several occasions, who instructed their engineer to measure the plot, and if he has yet sent in his report, and whether, in the event of the plot being found to be less than one acre in area, he will order that a refund of excess rent paid be made to Mr. Kelly, and give instructions for the acquisition of the necessary land to enlarge the plot to one acre.

The Edenderry No. 2 Rural District Council were authorised to acquire one acre and twenty-five perches as a garden in this case. Representations have been made to me that the area actually acquired is only half an acre. I am in communication with the local authority, who, no doubt, will take action appropriate to the facts when such will have been ascertained with certainty.
