asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that a claim made by Mrs. Young, St. Patrick's, Dunmanway, Co. Cork, for milk stated to have been supplied to Irish Volunteers who occupied Dunmanway R.I.C. Barracks after the Truce, has been rejected by the Army Finance Department on the ground that the occupants of the barrack were Irregulars; whether he is aware that a number of persons then in the barrack were avowed Treaty supporters, and that at least one of the men referred to was afterwards killed while serving with the National Army, and whether he will have the claim again considered with a view to payment of at least part of it.
WRITTEN ANSWER. - DUNMANWAY CLAIM FOR MILK SUPPLIES.
Mrs. Young's claim in respect of milk supplied to forces in occupation of Dunmanway Barracks in May, June, July and August, 1922, was disallowed on the ground mentioned by the Deputy. The forces in question were not loyal to the Provisional Government—a fact admitted by the claimant herself. I have no evidence that any of them were Treaty supporters. I regret that I am unable to have the claim reconsidered, as it appears that no portion could properly involve a charge on Army funds.
