Vol. 13 No. 4

PRIVATE NOTICE QUESTION. - BOUNDARY COMMISSION AND POSTAL SERVICES.

I desire to ask the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether his attention has been drawn to the newspaper announcements that the British Post Office is proposing to take over the postal services of certain post offices in the Saorstát, and whether he has any information to give to the Dáil on the subject?

I have seen the report referred to, but I am not inclined to attach any special importance to it. It is true, however, that discussions have taken place, having in mind the administrative changes likely to be necessary as the result of the Boundary Commission's Report.

Likely to be necessary?

"Changes likely to be necessary."

Are we to understand that the fact of discussions having taken place means that the British Post Office is to take over Post Offices at present within the area of Saorstát Eireann?

I do not think that the Deputy is entitled to understand any such thing, and I would refer him to the President's answer arising out of a question asked by Deputy Johnson a few days ago.
