Vol. 13 No. 10

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - AGRICULTURAL CREDIT SOCIETIES IN KERRY.

SEAMUS O CRUADHLAOICH

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he can state how many Agricultural Credit Societies have been started in County Kerry as the result of his proposals of the 26th of June, 1925, and the amount contributed by the State out of the £100,000 available, to these Societies in Kerry.

Mr. HOGAN

One Credit Society has been established at Tralee, and the registration of another Society, now being organised in the northern portion of the county, has been applied for. The Department are also in correspondence with three previously existing Credit Societies in the west, the centre and the north of the county, on the question of their receiving, if the necessary conditions are fulfilled, advances from State funds under the scheme. That makes a total of five that will be receiving advances in Kerry.

The Tralee Society, which, although only recently set up, has already qualified for and obtained State advances amounting to over £2,200, and has lent a sum of £3,300 to farmers for restocking purposes. I believe they qualified for a further loan yesterday.

So that practically the £3,500 go to Kerry.
