CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - WORKMEN'S COMPENSATION.

TOMAS MAC EOIN

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the contractors and sub-contractors on the constructional work on the Shannon scheme are liable to pay compensation to employees under the Workmen's Compensation Acts, 1906 to 1919; whether the contractors and sub-contractors have been required to insure their liability under these Acts; and whether any steps have been taken to guarantee the discharge in full of the liabilities to employees and their dependents in the event of the employers becoming bankrupt, going into liquidation, or ceasing to have any office or assets within the jurisdiction of the Saorstát.

The answer to the first and third parts of the question is in the affirmative. The answer to the second part is that the contractors, though not requested to do so, have insured.
