Vol. 13 No. 12

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - POSTAL OFFICIAL'S RETIREMENT.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware that Martin Flynn, Inspector of Postmen, Waterford, applied on 10th October, 1923, for permission to retire from the service under Article 10 of the Treaty, and if he is in a position to say when this officer's request is likely to be acceded to.

On the 10th October, 1923, Mr. Flynn applied to retire from the Post Office Service under Article 10 of the Treaty. The application was refused by the Minister for Finance on the ground that Mr. Flynn had accepted substantive promotion subsequent to the 1st April, 1922, and that application for retirement in consequence of the change of Government and acceptance of promotion from the Government were mutually inconsistent. I am not in a position to reply to the latter portion of the question, as the decision does not rest with my Department, but with the Minister for Finance, to whom the Deputy should address any further representations on the subject.

Is the Minister aware that it was at the request of his Department that Mr. Flynn accepted this appointment?

It was optional with Mr. Flynn to decline.
