asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will lay before the Dáil a summary showing the state of employment in the various industries in the Saorstát which have received protection by means of tariffs on the 1st April, 1925, before such tariff was imposed, and on the 1st December, 1925, similar to that presented by him to the Dáil last year.

My Department has already requested from the firms concerned the necessary particulars for a return similar to that presented last year to the Dáil showing the state of employment on the 1st November, 1925, as compared with a date prior to the imposition of the tariffs in the industries which first received protection under the Finance Act, 1925. When these returns have been completed the information will be laid before the Dáil. I do not expect that that information will be available until the New Year.
