Vol. 13 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - FORESTRY LANDS IN COUNTY TIPPERARY.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state the following particulars regarding the lands acquired for forestry purposes on the estate of the Earl de Montalt, Dundrum, Co. Tipperary: (1) the area acquired, (2) the area of the part under full-grown timber, and the area of the portion implanted at the time of purchase, (3) the date of purchase and the price paid to the owner, (4) the total sum received for timber sold since, and other income from the lands, and (5) the area fully planted and description of trees put down.

Mr. HOGAN

(1) 1,197 statute acres. (2) Area under timber, 1,067 acres; area unplanted, 130 acres (including 20 acres unplantable). (3) 19th June, 1908; £3,750, repayable by annuity to the Irish Land Commission. (4) It is not possible, in view of the short notice given, to supply detailed figures, but I shall send them in a few days to the Deputy. (5) Entire area is planted, except the 20 acres unplantable. 542 acres have been planted or replanted by the Forestry Commissioners or the Department. As the list of the different species of trees planted would take some time to read, I am forwarding the list to the Deputy.
