Vol. 13 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DUNMANWAY PENSIONS STATION.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that the Dunmanway, County Cork, Circuit has been vacant for over twelve months as far as a Pensions Officer is concerned; that temporary officers have since been doing duty there, and that such officers are usually transferred after a period of a couple of weeks; and whether, seeing that the above arrangement brings about a dislocation of work and entails hardship and inconvenience on the aged poor of the district, he will make representations to the Revenue Commissioners with a view to having a permanent officer appointed to the Circuit.

Dunmanway Customs and Excise Station was rendered vacant by the transfer of an officer, who was experienced in Customs work, to Cork Customs Station, to provide for the additional work in that Station caused by the imposition of the new import duties included in the Budget of 1924. The work of Dunmanway Station has since been performed by Unattached Officers. There is no reason why dislocation of work or hardship should arise in stations worked by Unattached Officers, of which there are always a considerable number. At present, the staff position renders it a matter of difficulty to keep the number of vacant stations within normal limits. Dunmanway Station will be filled as soon as the exigencies of the Service permit.
