Vol. 14 No. 4

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - REBUILDING OF EDENMORE SCHOOL (CAVAN).

asked the Minister for Finance whether repeated representations have been made to the Office of Public Works by the Manager of Edenmore National School, Co. Cavan, Roll No. 14584, regarding the delay which has occurred in the preparing of the plans and specifications necessary for the rebuilding of Edenmore School, which was destroyed in the autumn of 1923; whether he would state the reason for this delay; and whether, in view of the great inconvenience the children of the area suffer as the result of the non-existence of a National School in the area, he will have the matter attended to at once.

Upon the destruction of the schoolhouse at Edenmore in October, 1923, the school work was continued in temporary premises until March in the following year, when the teacher left. No successor was appointed, and it would appear that the children who were attending Edenmore school found accommodation in the neighbouring schools since. In the circumstances the question arose as to whether there was any need for the re-erection of the school, and the matter is at present being investigated by the local inspector.

No definite decision in regard to the issue of plans for the re-erection of the building can be reached by the Department of Education pending the receipt and consideration of the inspector's report.
