Vol. 14 No. 4

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ALLOCATION OF RELIEF GRANT.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the basis on which the amount of the Relief Grant allocated to different counties was calculated; whether information from a local source was obtained in each case to enable a decision to be arrived at; whether the amount apportioned to Cavan is regarded as equitable, in view of the amount granted to other counties, and if it is proposed to increase the grant in this particular instance.

It is not the practice to calculate the amount to which any particular county may be entitled from the Relief Schemes Vote; every application for a grant is considered on its merits when received. Grants are made on the recommendation of other Departments, and I understand that information is obtained from local sources before these recommendations are sent forward. As regards the third part of the question, a further sum of £4,000 has been allocated to County Cavan since the expiration of the period covered by the return recently presented to the Dáil.
