Vol. 14 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - GALWAY DISPENSARY DOCTORS' SALARIES.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that the payment of the salaries of the Dispensary Medical Officers in the County Galway has been suspended owing to lack of funds, and that the Medical Officers have been notified by the Board of Health that their salaries will be subjected to a deduction of 10 per cent., and whether this deduction has received the sanction of the Minister, and, if not, what action he proposes to take in the matter.

I am aware of the position as mentioned by the Deputy. I have now informed the County Board of Health that they have no authority to reduce without my sanction the salaries already sanctioned. An application from the Galway County Council for an increased overdraft is being sanctioned to-day.
