Vol. 14 No. 7

WRITTEN ANSWER. - KILTIMAGH (MAYO) PERSONAL INJURIES APPLICATION.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that Patrick Shannon, Greyfield, Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo, was, it is stated, brutally beaten, dragged along the streets of Kiltimagh and thrown into a river, with several others, by British forces, on March 22nd, 1922, and that as a result of the injuries inflicted Shannon is permanently disabled, and if he will state what compensation, if any, has been paid to Shannon.

The application of the person named by the Deputy for compensation in respect of personal injuries sustained on the 22nd March, 1921, not 1922 as stated in the question, was investigated by the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee. After careful consideration of all the facts of the case, as presented to them in evidence at the hearing and otherwise, the Committee recommended that no compensation should be paid. I agree with the finding of the Committee in this case, and I am not disposed to vary their recommendation.
