Vol. 14 No. 7

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - REBUILDING OF CABINTEELY BARRACKS.

TOMAS MAC EOIN

asked the Minister for Finance whether it is a fact that in the renovation and rebuilding of the Gárda Síochána Barracks at Cabinteely, Co. Dublin, the frames and sashes used have been imported, and whether he will make arrangements that material of this kind, in such cases, should be manufactured in Ireland so as to give work to unemployed Irish workers.

The contractor, in using imported frames and sashes, acted contrary to the terms of the specifications, and he was informed by the Commissioners of Public Works on 30th January that the joinery in question could not be accepted and was requested to obtain the necessary joinery work from manufacturers operating in the Saorstát, in accordance with the conditions of his contract.
