Vol. 14 No. 9

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CO. WICKLOW POSTAL DELIVERIES.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that the delivery of letters to the residents of Thonlagee, Brittas and Ardinary, Co. Wicklow, has been reduced to a tri-weekly delivery; and whether, in view of the inconvenience caused, he will restore the daily delivery of letters in these districts.

It came under notice recently that the amount of correspondence for delivery in the districts in question was exceptionally small and that the maintenance of a six-day service was involving a loss to revenue which could not be justified. The frequency of delivery was consequently reduced to three days a week, but as the residents affected can obtain their correspondence on non-post days free of charge at Thonlagee Post Office, from which they are not far distant, it is not considered that any serious inconvenience is caused by the restriction.

Is the Minister aware that the extent of the economy effected is five shillings a week.

I am sure he is.

Does the Minister not agree that it is a great injustice and a great inconvenience to the residents of the district?
