CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - LAND PURCHASE IN DONEGAL.

SEAN de FAOITE

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state what steps have been taken by the Land Commission to declare the appointed day under the Land Act, 1923, in respect of the County Donegal estates of the Hon. Mrs. E.F.M.C. Cochrane, Redcastle; Major R.F. Cochrane, Redcastle; Colonel J.V. Harte, Kilderry, Muff; Messrs. J.G.M. Harvey and Son, Northern Bank Buildings, Derry, agents for Mrs. Hall and Courtney H. Newton, and Messrs, Colquohoun and King, solicitors, Shipquay Street, Derry, agents for J. Walker Doherty, deceased.

Mr. HOGAN

As regards the first three estates mentioned in the question—viz., the Hon. Mrs. E.F.M.C. Cochrane, Major R.F. Cochrane, and Colonel J.G.V. Harte the prescribed documents (maps and schedules, etc.) under the Land Act, 1923, have been lodged in the Land Commission. The Commissioners anticipate that the first of these estates will be inspected at an early date; the other two estates have not yet been reached in their order to be dealt with, but when so reached will be dealt with as expeditiously as possible.

As regards the last three estates mentioned in the question the Land Commission have requested the agent of the respective owners to lodge the prescribed documents, but up to the present the documents have not been lodged. If not lodged at an early date, the owners will be required to appear before the Judicial Commissioner to explain their delay in lodging the documents.
