WRITTEN ANSWERS. - ACQUIREMENT OF WESTMEATH AND KILDARE LANDS.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether it is the intention of the Land Commission to acquire the lands of Col. N. McGill, Littleton, Glasson, Athlone, for the relief of congestion in that district, and if he will state whether any negotiations have yet been entered into by the Land Commission with Col. N. McGill for this purpose.

Mr. HOGAN

The Land Commission have issued to Colonel N. McGill an offer for the purchase of lands in the townland of Cartroncroy and Littletown, and his solicitor, in reply, has stated that the lands had been sold to four different persons.

The Commissioners have the acquisition of the lands still under consideration.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether the Land Commission will acquire the lands of Mrs. Logan, Clunagh, Ballinagore, Westmeath, which comprises one hundred and seventy-five statute acres, for the relief of congestion; and, also, whether negotiations have been completed by the Land Commission for the purchase of Tuit's Estate, Sonna, Westmeath.

Mr. HOGAN

The acquisition of the Lands of Cloonagh, held by Mrs. Logan, is under consideration by the Land Commission.

The Land Commission are making enquiries as to the suitability of the untenanted lands on the Tuite estate, for acquisition under the provisions of the Land Act, 1923.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether the Land Commission propose to acquire six hundred and three acres of land held by Mr. George Mansfield, in the townland of Castlekeely, electoral division of Caragh, Co. Kildare, and, if so, whether he can state when the lands will be available for the relief of congestion.

Mr. HOGAN

The Land Commission do not at present propose to acquire the lands referred to.
