Vol. 15 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - BROADCASTING STATION APPOINTMENTS.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that an advertisement was issued inviting applications for the posts of Assistant Station Director, and Woman Organiser, at the Wireless Broadcasting Station; whether applicants for these posts were called upon to appear before a Selection Board appointed by the Civil Service Commissioners, and to pay a fee of 7s. 6d. in respect of each application; whether he is aware that on the 24th March candidates for the posts were informed by the Civil Service Commission that the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs did not propose to make any appointments to these posts, and whether, in view of the fact that applications were invited for posts which it was subsequently decided not to fill, he will cause the fees paid by candidates to be returned to them.

The Minister is aware of the circumstances referred to in the question, and he has given directions for the refund to the candidates of the fees paid by them.

Could the President tell us what cost was incurred by the State in advertising those posts and holding those interviews, and whether it will be possible to take steps to prevent advertisements being issued for posts which subsequently may not be filled?

I would like if the Deputy would put that question to the Minister for Finance.
