Vol. 15 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - P.O. STORES DEPARTMENT.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is yet in a position to announce the date at which the revision of the manipulative staff in the Stores Department of the Department of Posts and Telegraphs will be put into operation.

The revision of the staff referred to is still under consideration, but the Minister hopes to be in a position shortly to communicate a decision in the matter. I think much the same answer was given some time ago. Complications have arisen in another Department having something of the same set of circumstances. Consideration of the reactions of any decisions in this matter could not have been attended to by reason of the Budget and other things of that sort intervening. It is hoped that within three or four weeks' time it will be attended to.

Is the President aware that officers of a lower grade, while substituting officers of a higher grade, are receiving no allowance whilst so substituting, and in the case of higher appointments the lower grades receive a substitution allowance while employed substituting the higher grades? In view of this inequality will the President undertake that there will be no further postponement of the revision?

I could not promise it sooner than three or four weeks.

Will we have it within three or four weeks?

I hope so.
