Vol. 15 No. 3

PRESENTATION TO THE OIREACHTAS.

Before the business opens I should like to say that Deputies will probably have noticed when entering the Chamber an old Georgian bookcase in the vestibule. The bookcase is stated to have been in the old Parliament House in College Green. At the time of the passing of the Home Rule Act of 1913 certain friends of Ireland in Great Britain determined to present the bookcase, which was then in London, to the projected Home Rule Parliament. A subscription list was opened for the purpose and certain persons guaranteed money. The bookcase has now been presented to the Oireachtas, through Sir John Brunner, who was treasurer of the original Committee, and one of the guarantors. On behalf of the Dáil I shall convey to him the thanks of this House. The bookcase now contains documents of historical interest, including the Brehon Laws and Statutes and Journals of the old Irish Parliament.
