Vol. 15 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - LIMERICK CO. COUNCIL AND COMPETITIVE EXAMINATIONS.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that the Limerick County Council at a recent meeting rescinded a resolution previously adopted to the effect that all appointments were to be made by competitive examination, and whether he will refuse to sanction any and every appointment made otherwise than as a result of competitive examination.

This matter has not yet been brought to the notice of my Department. Any appointment now, or in future, coming within the scope of the Local Offices and Employments Order, 1924, requires the sanction of the Minister. Before such sanction would be given steps would be taken to ascertain the suitability of the candidate.
