Vol. 15 No. 11

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DIVISION OF THE BURY ESTATE (CO. KILDARE).

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he is aware that John Cassidy, of Downings, Prosperous, Co. Kildare, who has five sons and who tills a considerable portion of his small holding, the remainder being reclaimed land, has not been allotted any of the Bury Estate, adjoining his holding, which has just been divided, with the exception of about sixty acres, with the dwelling-house and garden, and whether he will inquire if a portion of this remaining land can be assigned to this man.

Mr. HOGAN

The Commissioners in the exercise of their discretion have not allotted any portion of the lands on the Bury estate to John Cassidy. In any further distribution of land in the district, the merits of John Cassidy will be again considered.

Will the Minister say if the uneconomic holders who have sent in applications have had their cases considered, and will he have the land that is around Bury's house divided at once to relieve congestion?

Mr. HOGAN

The Land Commission have taken into account the claims of the uneconomic holders in connection with the lands of this estate which have been already divided. John Cassidy whose valuation is £23 10s. had to be left out. I do not know about the acreage of the lands about the house, or the size of the house. I cannot say what the Land Commission may do with it. It may not be suitable for division, it may be woodland. If it is divided it will be divided primarily among the uneconomic holders.

Perhaps the Minister is not aware that 90 acres are not divided yet, and in the interests of uneconomic holders that land should be divided as soon as possible.
