Vol. 15 No. 11

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - KILLENAULE SHOOTING INCIDENT.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that on the occasion of the shooting of John J. Murphy by troops of the National Army in August, 1924, at Killenaule, Co. Tipperary, an officer and a soldier were placed under arrest by the Gárda Síochána, and if he will state why further proceedings were not taken by the Gárdaí against this officer and man in regard to this shooting.

On the occasion in question no arrests were effected by the Gárda Síochána. The lieutenant in charge of the troops, at the suggestion of the Gárda Síochána, marched his party to the police barracks for the purpose of having the ammunition checked. Two rounds of ammunition were missing, but one was subsequently accounted for. The private whose ammunition was missing, was placed under arrest by his own officer. The further investigation of the matter was left to the military authorities.
