Vol. 15 No. 12

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - GALWAY DRAINAGE SCHEMES.

SEAN O BRUADAIR

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the number of drainage schemes which have been recommended by the Galway County Council to the Commissioners of Public Works under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, and (a) in how many cases have inspections been made, (b) in how many cases after inspections have the Board of Works approved of the proposals and undertaken the preparation of schemes, and (c) in how many cases will works be undertaken during the present financial year.

Petitions in respect of seventy schemes under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, have been received from the Galway County Council. No inspections have yet been carried out in any of these cases, nor have any of the proposed schemes been approved of by the Commissioners of Public Works, as it was only on the 1st instant that the Council gave the undertaking required by Section 3 (3) of the Act, which is a necessary preliminary before the Commissioners can consider any petitions. It is unlikely that it will be possible to start work in any district this year.
