Vol. 15 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - EARL OF LEITRIM'S ESTATE.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state what steps have been taken by the Land Commission with a view to having the appointed day declared in respect of the Earl of Leitrim's estate, in the parishes of Kilmacrenan, Termon, Killygarvan, Fanad, and Carrigart, rural district of Milford, Co. Donegal, in accordance with the Land Act, 1923; what extent of untenanted land has been returned on said estate for division amongst existing tenants with a view to relief of congestion, and if he is aware that this estate comprises about seven hundred tenancies.

For the purposes of the Land Act, 1923, schedules of particulars of the estate of the Earl of Leitrim, County Donegal, comprising some 2,000 tenants, have been lodged. The estate would appear to include the parishes mentioned in the question. There is an area of some 6,600 acres on this estate returned by the owner as untenanted land, including grazing, mountain and turbary, which will be dealt with when the Commissioners are dealing with the tenanted portion of the estate.

The Commissioners are not at present in a position to say when the appointed day for this estate may be fixed.
