Vol. 15 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ESTATES NOT VESTED.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state the names of the estates, in respect to which agreements have been signed, which have not vested under the Land Acts of 1903 and 1909 up to September, 1924; what are the total amounts of interest in lieu of rent paid on each estate; if he will also state the names of estates of untenanted land held by the Land Commission under the same Acts to the same date and the amount of interest per annum paid to owners by the Land Commission on each estate and what are the annual gains or losses to the State under all Acts.

To compile this return would necessitate a case to case investigation and would take a considerable time, with the result that staff would have to be taken off not only the more useful work of carrying through the residues of sales under the Acts 1903-9 and sales under the Act of 1923, but also from the collection work at this the busy gale periods of the year.

The Land Commission is making every effort to complete the sales under the Acts of 1903-9 and since the 1st. April, 1923, in addition to the work entailed by the Land Act, 1923, they have under the Acts of 1903-9 vested over 19,000 holdings, representing a purchase money of over 4½ millions and, as regards untenanted lands acquired by them under these Acts, have divided 21,598 acres.

Further, since the Congested Districts Board was dissolved and its jurisdiction and powers transferred to the Land Commission by the Land Law (Commission) Act, 1923, the Commission has divided 74,487 acres of untenanted land which had been purchased by the Board.
