WRITTEN ANSWERS. - LAND PURCHASE IN COUNTY MEATH.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether the Land Commission have taken any steps to acquire the estate of Mr. A. M'Cann, Rooske, Dunboyne. Co. Meath.

Mr. HOGAN

The acquisition of untenanted lands on the estate of A. McCann is under consideration by the Land Commission.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether the Land Commission have taken any steps to acquire the lands of Mr. D. Sullivan, The Grange, Dunboyne, Co. Meath.

Mr. HOGAN

From the particulars furnished in the question the lands referred to cannot be identified as pending for sale under the Land Purchase Acts.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether the Land Commission have taken any steps to acquire the Grennanstown Estate, Castletown, Athboy, Co. Meath, and if he will state when same will be taken over and allotted.

Mr. HOGAN

The Land Commission, as at present advised, do not propose to acquire the lands referred to.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether the Land Commission have given consideration to the application of Mr. Patrick Gavin, The Commons, Boyerstown Road, Navan, Co. Meath, dated the 18th June, 1924, for an allotment of land (Reference No. 31746/1924) and, if not, whether in view of the fact that Mr. Gavin is the son of a tenant evicted in the year 1894 from a farm of 58 acres 2 roods 39 perches at Kilmainham, Co. Meath, his case will now receive immediate consideration.

The Commissioners are having inquiries made with regard to the case of Patrick Gavin, son of an evicted tenant.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether he will state what steps, if any, have been taken by the Land Commission to acquire the estates of John Leonard, situated at Macetown, Knockmark, Drumree, Ribstown (No. U.1938) and Warrenstown, Curraghtown, Culmullen (No. U. 1938a), and whether these lands will be allotted for the relief of congestion by the coming autumn.

Mr. HOGAN

The lands of Macetown are purchased lands subject to a land purchase annuity, and the Commissioners do not propose to take any action in the matter. Inquiries are being made as regards the other lands referred to in the question.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether the Land Commission have acquired the Georges Liscarton Estate, Ardbraeean Navan, Co. Meath, and when it is proposed to have same divided and allotted.

Mr. HOGAN

The Land Commission have acquired an area of 731a. Or. 24p. of the untenanted lands of Liscarton, on the estate of Charles Georges. The lands have been let for grazing pending preparation of a scheme for their division and distribution.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether any steps have been taken by the Land Commission to acquire for distribution the lands of Charles Gasteen, Moneymore, Co. Meath; James Griffin, Dernlig, Co. Meath; Thomas Maguire, Moyfin, Longwood, Co. Meath; John Monahan, Longwood, Co. Meath, and the lands of Andrew Jackson, Castlerickard, Co. Meath.

Mr. HOGAN

The lands of Moneymore, in the occupation of C.K. Casteen, of Moyfin, in the occupation of Thomas Maguire, and of Longwood, in the occupation of John Monahan, are purchased lands, subject to land purchase annuities, and the Land Commission are not prepared to take any action with regard to their acquisition.

The lands of Dernlig (James Griffin) and Castlerickard (Andrew Jackson) do not appear to be pending for sale under the Land Purchase Acts.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether he will state what steps, if any, have been taken by the Land Commission to acquire for distribution the estate of Metge, Alexandereide, Johnstown, Navan, and the estate of Murphy, Kilcarne and Follistown, Navan, and whether it is the intention of the Land Commission to have these estates divided this summer.

Mr. HOGAN

The untenanted lands in the townland of Alexandereide on Metge estate will be dealt with in connection with the tenanted lands on this estate when the Land Commission are dealing with the estate under the Land Act, 1923. The lands of Follistown comprise a holding in the occupation of Louisa O'Reilly and R. Meagher, representatives of Francis Murphy, deceased, situate on the estate of Lady Mowbray and Stourton (S. 403). This holding will be retained. The lands of Kilearne referred to do not appear to be pending for sale under the Land Purchase Acts.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether the Land Commission have been petitioned for a cow plot on the Bobbett estate at Orristown, Kells, Co. Meath, by twenty-four cow owners around the estate, and whether the Land Commission have decided to allot portion of the estate for that purpose, and how soon the petitioners may expect to have this allotment placed at their disposal.

Communications have been received by the Orristown Back to the Land Association asking the Commissioners to acquire lands of Orristown. These lands comprise three large holdings in the occupation of James Gray, Cornelius Gavin and the Reps. of the Marchioness of Winchester, deceased, tenants on the estate of D.M. O'Farrell, which is being dealt with under the Land Act of 1923. The Land Commission are considering the question of retaining these holdings.

The provisional list for this estate was published on 16th February last.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether he can state what steps, if any, have been taken to acquire the Blake (now McKeever) estate. County Meath, and when same will be allotted.

Mr. HOGAN

An offer made by the Land Commission for the purchase of an area of 225 acres situate in Ladyrath, on the estate of Samuel McKeever, under Section 36 of the Land Act, 1923, was refused. Proceedings are being continued for the acquisition of the land under Section 24 of the Act, and it is expected that the lands will be published in a provisional list at an early date. The Commissioners are not at present in a position to state when the lands will be divided.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether an application by Mr. Patrick Grimes, Church Lane, Kells, Co. Meath, for an allotment on the Nicholson estate, Balrath, Kells, was received by the Land Commission, and whether it is the intention of the Land Commission to allot a holding to Mr. Grimes so that his present six acre holding may be extended, and, if not, if he will state the reasons for the rejection of his application.

Mr. HOGAN

The application for an allotment of land on the Nicholson estate has been received by the Land Commission and will be considered in connection with the distribution of lands in this estate, which have not yet been distributed.
