Vol. 16 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - PROTECTIVE LEGISLATION.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the dumping of large quantities of flour and other commodities into the Saorstát during the past twelve months or more, resulting in the total closing in some cases, and the partial closing in numerous cases, of many Saorstát industries and the loss of considerable sums of money to the home trades, as well as increased unemployment, he will introduce at an early date protective legislation.

Dumping has been alleged in the case of a number of commodities but requires to be examined by such a body as the proposed Tariff Commission, if the facts are to be ascertained definitely. In reply to the latter part of the question, I would refer to the statement on protective tariffs made by the Minister for Finance on the 21st April.
