Vol. 16 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CLOSING OF RATE COLLECTIONS.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the number of county councils in the Saorstát the rate collectors of which closed their collections on the 31st March, 1926; also, the names of councils the collectors of which have not so closed, and if he will state what action has been taken by the different county councils against rate collectors who failed to close on the above date.

I regret this information is not available, and having regard to the general pressure of business, I would hesitate to ask county councils to furnish the details required by the Deputy. Generally, we urge all county councils to bring pressure upon rate collectors to close their warrants, but a general review of the situation affecting the position individually of many hundreds of rate collectors would be an undertaking of some magnitude. If the Deputy finds it possible to indicate the particular aspect of the matter which interests him, I may be able to assist him.

Can the Minister say if he will be able to give the information later on?

Not all the information. If you would point out the particular information you require I would, probably, be able to get it, but the answer to this question would involve a lot of work.
