Vol. 16 No. 17

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - UNECONOMIC HOLDERS AND LEIX LANDS.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he can state whether the Land Commission received an application from a number of uneconomic holders requesting the Commissioners to acquire the lands of James William Edmund Scott, Co. Leix (lands at Killeaney, Rathass, Record No. 1757), under the Land Act, 1923, and if he can now state whether the Commissioners are prepared to comply with the request or state the reasons why they are unable to do so.

Since I replied to the Deputy on the 24th instant, I have ascertained that the Land Commission had inquiries made as regards other lands in Killeaney and Springmount, comprising 163 acres 0 roods 5 perches, and 189 acres 1 rood 27 perches, respectively, held by the representatives of Major Marsh, and they decided to take no action in the matter.

The lands of Killeaney now referred to are woodlands and of no agricultural value. Springmount is the family residence of the Marsh family.
