Vol. 16 No. 21

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - FOREIGN TRAWLERS AND SMUGGLING.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that foreign fishing boats poaching for fish inside the three mile limit along the coasts of Waterford, Cork and Kerry have been also engaged in smuggling dutiable commodities, such as tobaccos and brandies, into the Saorstát, and if he will state what immediate action he intends taking with a view to preventing the further smuggling of such articles.

I am not aware that the fishing boats referred to are engaged in smuggling dutiable commodities into Saorstát Eireann. If the Deputy has in his possession any information which would assist in the detection of smuggling I shall be glad if he will furnish it to me.
