CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SHANNON SCHEME ACCIDENTS.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of fatal accidents which occurred in connection with the Shannon scheme since its inception; the number resulting in complete incapacity; and if he is in a position to indicate what compensation has been given either to the dependents or the sufferers themselves.

Seven fatal accidents directly connected with the scheme and two road accidents indirectly connected with it have been reported. 30 accidents have resulted in incapacity for a greater or less period. Compensation varying according to the nature of the injury has been fixed by agreement or award in 12 cases. The remainder will be duly dealt with under the provisions of the Workmen's Compensation Acts.
