Vol. 17 No. 3

EXTENDED SITTING.

I move "That the Dáil sit later than 8.30 p.m., and that the Motion for the Adjournment be taken not later than 11 p.m." That is to provide for Deputy Johnson's motion but it is probable that the House will not sit so late.

I would like to know what that presages. Is it intended not to sit to-morrow?

I wanted to raise a matter to-morrow but I am afraid it will be too late if I have to postpone it after next week. I gather from conversation or rumours that it is proposed not to sit next week.

Then I desire to put this question to the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs. A question has arisen that raises rather important issues in connection with the appointment of a News Editor to the Broadcasting Station. I wanted to have this matter raised and discussed before the appointment is made. If I could get an assurance that the appointment will not be made until after we resume I shall be content. If it is to be made, I would like to have the matter discussed in the Dáil before that event takes place.

I am anxious to expedite the appointment of a reporter but it seems to me that a week will not make very material difference. If the Deputy is very keen on the subject I am prepared to hold it over.

I am satisfied if the matter is left over; otherwise I would like to have it discussed to-morrow.

I will undertake to hold the matter over.

Motion put and agreed to.
