Vol. 17 No. 10

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - EXPENDITURE OF UNEMPLOYMENT VOTE.

TOMAS MAC EOIN

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state what portion of the sum of £6,010,935 voted for purposes likely to promote employment in the Saorstát has been already expended.

The amount expended to date is £2,217,359. The amount which will probably be expended in the remaining portion of the financial year is £2,364,686. The total probable expenditure is, therefore, £4,582,045. This figure may be increased by £217,964, being the expenditure in the current year from Road Grants made available in previous years but not fully expended, thus bringing the grand total of probable expenditure to £4,800,009.

Would the Minister say how many months of the financial year have passed, and whether when he quoted £6,000,000 odd as the money expended on unemployment it had any relation to the facts?

If my memory serves me, I was referring to the provision that had been made by way of vote in the House for this purpose.

How much of the money —£6,000,000 odd—set aside for drainage work has been already spent, and what portion of the remainder, if any, does the Minister hope to have spent between now and the end of the financial year?

I cannot give these details at the moment, but I should be able to give approximate figures to the Deputy. I will send them to him, if he so desires.
