Vol. 18 No. 1

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - COMPENSATION AWARDS.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that Michael Flynn, of Gortnagullion, Keshcarrigan, Co. Leitrim, was awarded the sum of £196 by Judge Brown at Carrick-on-Shannon, in 1922, for damage done to his person and property by British forces, and that his decision was further considered by the Compensation Commission appointed by the Saorstát Government and approved; further, if he is aware that Mr. Flynn has only received so far £100 of this award, and whether the Minister will expedite payment of the amount of the award outstanding.

A decree for the amount stated was awarded to the applicant named by the Deputy. The amount of the decree relating to personal injuries, viz., £100, together with costs and appropriate interest, has been discharged by my department. The decree was referred to the Compensation (Ireland) Commission for consideration in so far as any other losses suffered might fall within their terms of reference. No award was made by the Commission and in the circumstances no further payment can be made.
