Vol. 18 No. 5

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - GRANTS FOR UNEMPLOYMENT AND ROADS.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount of money allotted to each county in the Saorstát for: (a) Unemployment; (b) Road Fund Grant, and (c) Special Grants; also if he can state the amount granted under each of the above headings in the last year of the British régime.

As regards the first item, if the Deputy has in mind unemployment benefit, the matter is one for the Minister for Industry and Commerce. The second item is one for the Minister for Local Government and Public Health. As regards the third item, I presume the Deputy has in mind grants from the Vote for the Relief of Unemployment and Distress, and I am having printed in the Official Report a list showing the allocations by counties for the current financial year. I would remind the Deputy that the Vote for 1926-27 provides only for expenditure on the completion of works which were unfinished on the 31st March last. I am not in a position to furnish corresponding information for the last year of the British régime.
