Vol. 18 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE CLAIMS (LEIX AND OFFALY).

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has received a claim for unemployment insurance benefit from Mr. Thomas Cuskelly, Market Lane, Tullamore, Offaly, and whether he is prepared to sanction payment of the amount due, or state the reasons why he cannot do so.

On his claim dated the 2nd April, 1926, Thomas Cuskelly, of Market Lane, Tullamore, was allowed benefit for 156 days. After he had been receiving benefit for some time it became necessary to investigate his claim and payment of further benefit was suspended pending investigation. As a result of the inquiries made payment of benefit was disallowed by the Insurance Officer on the grounds that the claimant was not unemployed in a period during which he was claiming benefit. The Court of Referees to which the claimant appealed, made certain recommendations with which the Insurance Officer is unable to agree and consequently the claim is being submitted to the Umpire for final decision in accordance with the procedure laid down for such cases.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, and at what periods he received claims for unemployment insurance benefit from Mr. Francis Gaffney, New Road, Portlaoighise, Leix; if he will state the number of stamps to the credit of claimant and the amount of benefit paid as a result of each application, and whether the applicant has been paid the full amount due to him.

In the time at my disposal I have not found it possible to ascertain the facts of this case, but I shall communicate to the Deputy as early as possible the result of the inquiries which are being made.
