Vol. 18 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - PAYMENT IN LIEU OF RENT.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether any complaints have been received by the Land Commission as to delays in the payment of "payment in lieu of rent," due on the 1st of November, 1926, to persons entitled to receive it; whether the rules made by the Land Commission under Section 20 of the Land Act, 1923, provide for the payment of this money within three months of its collection, and whether steps will be taken to expedite this payment in any cases now outstanding.

Mr. HOGAN

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative.

The greater part of these payments has been made and the balance of the payments that can be made will be issued in the course of a couple of days. In some cases in which objections are the subject of appeals to the Judicial Commissioner or in which investigations as to title are taking place, payments must, of necessity, be held over. The Deputy can take it that all payments in respect of which no legal difficulties arise will be made in the next two days.
